What we do

At Cape Cod PET-CT Center, we are all about imaging. Our goal is to give our patient’s doctors a clear view of the full picture. We use a few different machines and scans to provide your doctors with all the information they need.

PET is an acronym for Positron Emission Tomography. A positron is a subatomic particle used during a PET scan and tomography means a scan that helps us see inside something solid. A PET scan is a test that uses special cameras and a radioactive type of sugar to produce pictures that illustrate the function and metabolism of the cells in the body.

CT stands for Computed Tomography. A CT scan is like an x-ray that generates a detailed view of the anatomy of structure of organs of tissues in the body. CT scans can show the dimension of vessels, lymph nodes, and organ systems.

PET/CT is a combination of both.
These scans use both technologies with a single machine so we can illustrate both function and anatomy at the same time.
